The Broads Authority, who look after the Broads National Park, commissioned Richard to design a board game called Wherry Races. Working from a basic sketch and outline of the concept, Richard designed and illustrated the game board, cards, box and instructions, adapting and refining the overall concept as he went along in order to maximise its appeal and playability.
The board is double-sided, offering two games to play, and two ways of playing each one. It was designed to replicate a fold-out map of the Broads National Park, and features the sights and attractions associated with the Broads. Wherry Races is to be distributed throughout schools in Norfolk as an educational tool for the Broads. The game has been brought to life with the help of the Broads Trust and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
